Tuesday 13th March
6 – 8pm
St Luke’s Church
(corner of Devonshire Street South and Stockport Road)
During 2011, St Luke’s Art Project’s Media Project worked with around 30 local people to record conversations between friends.
Artist Rae Story worked with participants who were trained in sound recording, interviewing skills and editing techniques. They then began to invite colleagues and friends to take part in recorded conversations – on any subject of their choice.
Inspired by Storycorps in the USA, the results are diverse voices from Manchester, speaking of real day to day experiences, fears, memories hopes and beliefs….these recording will be archived at the North West Sound Archive adding to the oral history of the city...
We have made a small selection from the hours of recordings that were made and are presenting these at a Listening Event on Tuesday 13th March in the wonderful setting of St Luke’s Church – a 1970s classic of Urban Eclesiastical Architecture and home of TLC-St Luke’s, a local charity that provides a range of projects for people with mental health needs, including the Art Project, that has been helping people develop their skills, social networks, independence and creative projects since 1993.
Please join us to celebrate this unique event. There will be a limited edition CD available on the night.
The Creating Conversations project was generously funded by Awards for All and is supported by St Luke’s Art Project.
